KOS 'Hello Dolly' Review

Joan Ransom called upon every facet of her vast experience to create a vivacious, devious Dolly Gallagher-Levi, maintaining her New York accent throughout the production. Her matchmaking skills involving Horace Vandergelder, the widowed half-millionaire, played by Laurence Marshall with certain firmness and charm, were something to behold. James Boulter as Cornelius Hackl and Tim Davis as Barnaby Tucker were amusing as the naive shop assistants of Horace Vandergelder. Amy Freshwater made a charming Irene Molloy, hat shop owner, singing “Ribbons Down My Back” with great feeling. Minnie Faye (Catherine Jolley) was animated as Mrs Molloy’s assistant.

An energetic line up of waiters opened Act 2 with a lively and creditable performance of the waiters’ gallop. Despite the large chorus on stage, movement was well disciplined and musically well—rehearsed and presented.

Attractive costumes by Carousel Costumes and a well-controlled orchestra made this a most enjoyable production.
