Review from Solihull local newspaper:
Amateurs’
pro touch
La Belle Helene,
Knowle Operatic Society,
Solihull Library
Theatre
After
a cautious opening this musical burst into life as the chorus with gusto and
colour got the operatic spoof under way.
Established
favourites were recognised with pleasure and the dialogue delivered faultlessly
with timing and humour by David Derrington, as Calculus, supported by Stephen
Yeomans, using a Brummie accent.
Angela
Gowan, in the title role, showed and enjoyed an impish wit.
The
humorous aspects were played up, with references to "duty frees” going
down well with the packed audience.
Well
dressed in Trojan war era costume, the large cast was complemented, as we have
come to expect, by a host of musicians under the direction of popular conductor
Ronald Beales.
Another
grand night for the Solihull audIience, thanks to the Knowle Operatic SocIiety -
our professional
Amateurs
– with anchor man Bob Pardoe shining.
Bravo
Pardoe!
