NODA Review of Wizard of Oz
by Ron Hyams
Director/Choreographer: Elizabeth Redston
Musical Director: Michael Redston
This timeless fairy tale always seems to be well received. "Dorothy", delightfully played by Eleanor Warren, finds herself whisked away by a tornado, to Munchkinland. On the Yellow Brick Road to emerald City, she meets "Scarecrow" who is desperate for a brain, well played by James Boulter, "Tinman" Jeff Martin, incomplete without a heart, and "Lion" Lawrence Marshall, who lacks courage. Together, all four of them have an exciting time in search of the "Wizard of Oz" Alun Beddoe, who they hope will grant their wishes. In the forest they meet Munchkins, jitterbugs, a good fairy and evil witches; and here we must thank the choreographer for pleasing choreography. Attractive costumes and scenery, but I did miss Dorothy’s dog Toto!
